Common Questions About OCI & Entry Visa
Is OCI the same as dual citizenship?
No. OCI is not dual citizenship. OCI cardholders do not have Indian citizenship and cannot vote in Indian elections, hold Indian government jobs, or acquire agricultural land in India. However, it provides many of the benefits of residency and lifetime visa access.
Does an OCI cardholder need FRRO registration?
Generally, OCI cardholders are exempt from FRRO registration during their stay in India. However, they should still comply with any specific conditions attached to their OCI card and report to the FRRO in specific circumstances as required by current regulations.
Can a foreign national spouse of an Indian citizen get OCI?
Yes. Foreign-national spouses of Indian citizens are eligible for OCI cards, provided the marriage has been registered and is subsisting. We assist with OCI applications for spouses, including the required documentation.
Can OCI cardholders work in India?
Yes. OCI cardholders can work in India. They do not need an Employment Visa or FRRO registration for employment purposes. However, certain sectors (defence, atomic energy, etc.) may have restrictions on OCI cardholder employment.
What is the difference between OCI and Entry Visa (X Visa) for Indian spouses?
OCI provides long-term, FRRO-exempt residency. An Entry/X Visa is typically for shorter-term visits or while an OCI application is pending. For spouses of Indian citizens, OCI is the preferred long-term solution. We advise on which option suits your situation.
